ABOUT US

The Phoenix Foundation of Nevada is a 501c3 Non-Profit Organization that was founded by Zachary and Amber Gray. Both of whom are dedicated to helping youth aging out of foster care, transition to independent living. Zachary, a committed case worker, and Amber, an educator with 16 years of experience with at-risk youth, started this journey after a pivotal experience with a young woman, we will call Sarah.

Sarah, who had aged out of the foster care system, struggled to navigate life on her own. Living in a group home with a small government stipend, Sarah formed a trusting relationship with Zachary. After being discharged from her fifth group home, she stayed with Zachary and Amber, receiving the love, care, and guidance she needed. Under their mentorship, Sarah managed her medical needs, addressed her mental health issues, secured state identification, opened a checking account, and enrolled at UNLV with plans to become a journalist.

Unfortunately, Sarah chose to return to a group home, stopped taking her medication, and disappeared, never making it to the fall semester at UNLV. This experience highlighted to Zachary and Amber the critical need for continuous support and a nurturing environment for youth aging out of foster care.

Driven by compassion and a commitment to fill this gap, Zachary and Amber founded the Phoenix Foundation of Nevada. Their goal is to provide a nurturing environment where young adults can learn essential life skills, manage their wellness and healthcare, and further their education, ensuring no young person faces these challenges alone.
